You have Meaning

“‘Yes,’ said the ferryman, ‘a very beautiful river, I love it more than anything. Often I have listened to it, often I have looked into its eyes, and always I have learned from it. Much can be learned from a river.'”

The novel, “Siddhartha,” by Herman Hesse taught many lessons that one can take away and learn from, but one theme specifically caught my attention. By reading the statement, “‘Yes,’ said the ferryman, ‘a very beautiful river, I love it more than anything. Often I have listened to it, often I have looked into its eyes, and always I have learned from it. Much can be learned from a river,'” I came to the realization that everything and everyone has a meaning and point in life, even the smallest of things, but whether you choose to find that meaning in life is up to you.

The image above shows small ants that go throughout their day without getting much recognition, but they still choose to work hard, and though you may not notice, these small ants actually have a large impact on our world. In addition, you can also take away from the image that working together can be more efficient.

This theme can greatly affect one’s life and keep one determined to never give up. Even you. Though you may not notice, you actually have a great impact on the world, whether you are touching one person’s life or even your own. You should always keep your head up high and never look back.

  1. Wow Anthony, I really love how you can use such a simple quote and expand your ideas on it. The idea that everybody has a meaning or point in life is something that I agree with greatly. The mood of this blog post is so uplifting and inspiring for people who haven’t found their meaning yet. I think that the comparison to the ants makes so much sense because we are the ants in the colony that we call life. Everyone has a job but we just need to figure out what it is. I am still trying to find my meaning in life but as I grow older my path seems to become more and more clear.
