Reaching Your Goals

“You, Venerable One, may indeed be a seeker, for, striving toward your goal, there is much you do not see which is right before your eyes.”

In Siddhartha, vulnerability is a big part of the journey. Siddhartha, while strong and wise, was very gullible/vulnerable. Throughout his time he was looking to reach for his goals. And, since he was so gullible he lost track of what he wanted to reach. In a way he reminds me of myself, I also tend to lose track, and be vulnerable to society. This creates a block in my goals which are right in front of me.

Today, society expects to you to live up to their expectations. Many people fall for this and start focusing on their appearance instead of their futures. Almost all of the public falls for what the society wants from us. We start to hate ourselves and put our goals to the side. We seek for acceptance, and forget about we wanted to do all along. Instead of doing that, we should be putting it in a list of goals, which should be to be ourselves, and not what society wants.

In the quote, it tells that our goals are really just in front of us. Which I agree with but there’s always some type of work required to be done when reaching for them. Seeking for your goals won’t bring them to you, but if you reach just far enough you’ll realize they’ve been right in front of your eyes the entire time.

  1. So many of our parents and peers expect us to follow their own visions of success when it doesn’t line up with our own plans. They think they know what is best for us when they aren’t even US. I really valued how you mentioned that we should be ourselves because it is so easy to fall in the trap of pleasing others. This really reminded me to follow what I want to do and stop letting the days go by doing something I don’t really enjoy.
