The To Do List

Nobody ever talks about how routine our lives are. We wake up and repeat the same things every day because it’s apart of our daily life. Sometimes you’d get this random feeling of wanting to do something spontaneous like take a trip to a different country or change your identity. It almost terrifies me how I might have an ordinary lifestyle for the rest of my life which is one of my fears. I’m scared of living like one of those office workers with no hobbies or an old cat lady with nothing to do besides sewing and feed 20 cats a day. That lifestyle isn’t appealing whatsoever yet we live like that every day

.Some may argue routine life can maintain balance and healthy habits and I 100% agree with that. We keep ourselves healthy by sticking to certain things like showering everyday, mindfulness, going for walks in the mornings. Those things can and will help you but my argument is less focused on the little things and more on how mankind goes to school and works for a living. We need to add more activities to our plans and stop being followers because that gets us nowhere. How can we grow as a person if all we do is eat, work, sleep, and repeat. Not only that we get envious of others and their lives. It’s unhealthy therefore I believe stepping out of our comfort zone can help us.

Due to the current circumstances of Covid-19 it just adds on to the routine life we are living in. Take a teenager, for example, wake up early to spend a long day at school. . Most students go home afterward and eat then start hours worth of homework. Students will repeat this cycle for years without realizing how typically life could be. Or you do realize, there just isn’t much you can do about it because teenagers have limitations to what they can and cannot do. All this may be true, you could have more excitement in your life, but is that good enough for you? Maybe visiting some spends, going to a coffee shop, going to the library. This may seem fun at the time but it’s like a normal life with a few extra steps.

This is a “fake flyer” about life’s to do list

Let’s talk about how basically from a young age we go to school for 12 years, most likely another 4 years of school to just end up with a certificate and student loan debt, then work for the rest of your life. Why was a society built for humans to be slaves to the workforce? We are born to reproduce and keep the population going but after that, what’s our purpose in life? The ultimate goal or endpoint to success, a good future, or love? Children and younger people are told to live life to the fullest but how are we able to do that when our lives consist of continuous work life?

The thing is, we don’t have to live life the way society tells us too. What is the point in trying if you aren’t living your best life or at least willing to put in effort into achieving something that can go beyond today’s standards? The world is scary, everyone knows that doing the same old’ routine won’t make reality any more significant or meaningful. We need to branch out to make questionable decisions. Not questionable to the point you put yourself or others in danger but in a way that’ll get you thinking more about life itself. Maybe take a different direction when trying to become successful. Instead of taking 4 years of college try something new. There are other opportunities out there specific towards us, not the same plan that other people might take. There’s no point in following everyone else when it’s not beneficial for you.

Make life worth living

Before I go another thing that is important is that nobody can dictate what happens in your life but you. The choices you make are learning lessons so stepping out of the box with certain things can help you push forward. If you life seems boring you have the power to change what happens. Letting a basic routine life overrule you may seem simple and easy but your whole day can be turned upside down if you take a left inside of right for better or for worse.

  1. This was a very nice sentiment! I agree that a monotonous lifestyle is a great fear of many people. But just the same, if life will always have some sort of routine, then one might try to find some pleasure in each little routine. I disagree that a normal life with a few extra steps is bad, and that just doing something a little different every day makes all the difference. Even just walking outside at night and looking at the stars is enough for me.

  2. I’ve thought a lot about the topic you discussed and agree 100%. Especially the part about teenage routine. The repetitive school, homework, and sleep routine of the average teen feels depressing, on top of the fact that teens have a limitation on how they can control their days. As a teenager with school, track, and other responsibilities, I often ask myself what is the point of this. But I’ve realized, like you mentioned, we have a more freedom when planning our futures. We control our own path in life, and that gives me something to look forward to. Thank you for writing about this, I didn’t realize many people felt the same way.

  3. Just reading the title instantly got my mind working and thinking about whether or not this applied to me, and it did. I think school is already a constant in our lives and is the basis for this repetitive schedule, as it’s not necessarily something we can change. Then we plan things around that six-hour prison time, like going out or doing homework…etc. After school, we then get a job that fills in that position of time during our day that we revolve around.
