God’s Country

Does The United States of America run under a religion? Are we as a people empowered as a nation under God? This is not God’s country, and it never will be. Legislation can never be passed restricting a certain person from doing anything on the basis of belief. When I discuss the founding fathers, and their constitution condemning religious prejudice, I ask myself why aren’t our people doing the same?

People have come to me, telling me that they want to save me from Atheism. Strangers, who don’t know a single thing about me, have already made up their minds about what is going to happen to me in the afterlife. Over the internet. So many assumptions are made over the internet. So many narrow minded people make prejudiced assumptions over the internet. Biblical stories are used to justify hatred towards entire communities. Misinterpretations of scripture, throughout history, have always led to one sided bigotry.

Nobody knows what will happen to me when I die. Nobody knows what I want to happen when I die. I want to be worm food. When I die, put me in a coffin and let the earth eat me away, and I will be fine with that. When you tell somebody else what is going to happen to them, you are downright telling them that they are wrong. I could never push my beliefs onto anybody because I know how terrible something small like that can be. I’m happy that we are caring enough that we want to help each other, but sometimes people don’t know when they’re crossing the line. Having a major Savior complex can cause some to actively persecute others.

Homophobia, for example, will always be a part of illogical reasoning because at first, people wanted a reason to hate others. People still do, but all it takes to justify this, is a few Bible verses. People are TEACHING THEIR CHILDREN that homosexual human beings are bound to a life of torture. Conversion therapy, a normalized sense of homophobia throughout all generations. This will never sit right with me, even if you try to back it up with “It’s just MY belief” “It doesn’t affect you”, it’s still a massive problem that so many people across America struggle with. Your talking points are automatically invalid if you use your beliefs to uphold your argument.

  1. Heavy topic, but indeed things established in the past often clash with modern thinking due to the changes, and religion is no different, despite the magnitude in which it exists, so great points there. Loved the ending where you criticized those who say they don’t affect others, because it is only natural for every human to be affected in one shape or form within an interaction, which leads to a chain of events, clearly affecting people.
