“$20 in my pocket”

Ever since I can remember, I have always enjoyed thrifting. I wouldn’t say I’m an expert, but I do know my way around. Entering a thrift store is like entering a different world. Each item, old or new, holds a certain memory during one point and time. The best stores are the ones no one knows about. Those hold the most hidden treasures.

My earliest memories of thrifting was when I was 8 years old. When we arrived at the store, I carried my money and opened the door, not knowing what lies within. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. There were clothes scattered everywhere, old vintage furniture, and little knick knacks here and there. I wandered around the store with excitement in my eyes. I picked up each item and studied them carefully. One item in particular was this pink jewelry box. It was nothing special, just a small box with studs and glitter on the top. I don’t know what it was, but I really wanted it. I begged and begged till I was given permission to buy it. When it was our turn to pay, I paid all by myself. That evening, I came home with my first thrifted item, and my love for thrifting as well.

Note: For those wondering what is a thrift store, it is a place where they sell secondhand(used) clothing and furniture. Buying second hand clothing means that you aren’t contributing to fast fashion. However, don’t go thrifting if you are going to resell for a higher price. It is unethical and taking away from families who rely on thrift stores!!

  1. I’ve always wanted to go to a thrift store. It is a concept that makes so much sense. Hidden treasures sometimes have more meaning though, because it is more personally connected with you so that’s cool.
