Bread Forever

If there was one type of food I would have to have in every meal, it would have to bread. To simple put it, it’s because I love bread. I know Oprah has already repeated multiple times about how much she loves bread so I’ll save you guys the pain.

First we have to acknowledge bread’s historical impact dating back all the way to 8000 BC in ancient Egypt. Imagine that! Bread has always been symbolic with reference to it in the Bible and it’s no wonder today’s bread is so delicious as it has been refined for so long. You can’t help, but feel envy for future generations imaging how good their bread is going to be.

My favorite part of the history of bread is when humans discovered “leavening” where is where we add yeast to bread in order for it to rise into a light and fluffy toast. I mean my God! Imagine that! If anyone reading this was stranded on an Island and it had a fields of wheat with a stone mill, you would totally be lost. Where does yeast even come from? In fact, what is yeast? Who knows! Who cares!

What I care about about is how it contributes to that white, fluffy warmth. I’m more fond of breads with an outside crust such as baguettes, sourdough, etc. Not only does bread have a rich history, but it’s rich in its versatility! Make a flatbread, have a clam chowder bowl, for gods sake make a sandwich!

It is a staple in cuisines all around the world and it’s undoubtedly made its marked forever in the history of Food. It’s one of the reasons why I want to travel to Italy, garlic bread is one of the most comforting things you can eat on a warm, candle lit dinner , but don’t tell the Italians I prefer the Pizza Hut Breadsticks more than the Olive Garden ones. Though what’s cool is that there’s a Buzzfeed video of native Italian Grandmas bashing Olive saying it’s not real Italian Food.

Though if I had to have my ultimate bread dish, it would have to be French Toast. Who one day decided to dip sliced bread in eggs and milk? They should be hailed a world hero along with Ronald Reagan, Winston Church Hill, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln! (This is a joke, don’t get mad). Typically, I get my French bread from NORMS, which has always been delicious, but I want real French Bread from France I see pictures of strawberries and blueberries with syrup drizzled all over and we all really just need a day to ourselves.

I hope we can find common ground and agree that bread is one of the most iconic foods of all time. It has always been subtle, simple and humble, but the perfect base to support those who shine out the most.

P.S. I just got News that French bread originated in the Roman Empire contrary to its name and now I need to watch a French bread documentary.

  1. Bread is fantastic. Oprah loves it. I love it. Everyone loves it. French toast is amazing, but only if the bread is thick enough, sometimes if you have too much egg it scrambles and then it becomes kind of weird.

  2. Bread is very superior! I also love that each culture has bread, but in slightly different forms. I’m Filipino, and last year I’ve made much pandesal in the shape of frog bread.
