My Online Learning Experience

Ironic, isn’t it? The last normal day that students have had took place on Friday the 13th. School closures have drastically affected both teachers and students as teachers have to discover new ways to interact with their students online. Some methods have been extremely helpful. Others not as much.

Online learning has been really unique for me as all of my teachers use different methods to communicate their ideas. One of the most difficult subjects to learn in my opinion was Spanish as we usually gain experience through talking to classmates or participating in interactive activities. As of the school closures, our homework typically centers around completing our workbooks to further our knowledge which is a bit difficult with only the help of slides. As a result, I usually learn Spanish through the use of my trusty textbook.

Additionally, Math has been a bit difficult to learn as the subject is much more understandable with face-to-face explanation. However, my math teacher has been keeping up with technology and uses Youtube videos that she has specifically made to teach us new lessons. I really like these Youtube videos as I can replay or slow down the video if I have trouble grasping the lesson.

History has been somewhat easy to learn as I have more time to thoroughly read through the textbook to gain a better understanding. Additionally, each of our classes has been meeting up with our teacher every week to communicate ideas or difficulties. During each hour-long Google Meet, we have been able to review homework questions and watch informative videos.

In Chemistry, I have been enjoying my experience as my teacher is able to assign my class worksheets that improve our understanding of crucial ideas. Additionally, there are specific loom videos that are created for us to teach us the main ideas. Most of the online quizzes are able to check our concept understanding as they are completely based on the homework questions. My teacher also makes learning much easier by posting the answers, step by step.

English has been a breeze for me as the majority of our assignments throughout the year have already been online. My classmates and I typically use Canvas for our assignments with some occasional blog posts. English has been the easiest experience for me online as we learn through Youtube videos, podcasts, or interactive assignments which allow us to easily grasp new ideas.

Through the use of online learning, I have been able to spend more time on myself which I would not typically be able to do as a result of school activities and schoolwork. During this quarantine I was able to paint which I have not been able to do freely since last summer. I have also been able to maintain a very balanced diet due to free time that could be used to cut up fruit or make random healthy concoctions.
