This is what freedom feels like

Not much has changed since we´ve last met. Things have been relatively the same but then again when were they ever different? Waking up, eating, doing work, working out, eating, showering, then sleeping. A mundane but comforting routine I cherish.

But in the midst of it all, new(er) pass-times arose.

Normally, I´d take a romance novel or adventure packed science fiction but I toned it down to fit my sensitive albeit moody state of mind right now and been exploring the world of poetry books. One of my recent read was Flux by Orion Carloto, a writer, Youtube personality, and model. Flux is described as a somber narrative of heartbreak, nostalgia, solitude, depression, loss, and unrequited romance written by a hopeless romantic. It was a genuine view on her raw, authentic emotions through powerful but digestible verses and stanzas. Another praiseworthy read was The Glass Essay by Anne Carson, a Canadian poet. A sentimental, almost nervous essay about her past lover, love of Emily Brontës´ poems, and how life feels. Planning on purchasing and collecting more books with the little money I have left.

Cooking is one of the most rewarding hobbies I have. The process and end-results are equally satisfying and fulfilling. Last time, I attempted to make vegan banana and oat flour pancakes and they were unsuccessful. I wish I can say this time was the opposite but it wasn´t. Crumbly, mushy, burnt but somehow tasteless, Anton Ego was right, not everyone can become a great artist (but a great artist can come from anywhere). My one victory was kimchi fried rice. The most simple version is to stir fry minced garlic and onion until they´re golden brown, add rice, kimchi, and Korean red pepper paste, season to your liking, and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Amazing, show stopping, fabulous, spectacular, wonderful, out of this world, and best part is, you can veganized it too so it´s a win-win. Still drinking my morning matcha but occasionally I switch to an iced coffee with oat-milk. Creamy but not too sweet, topped with a hint of vanillary-goodness from the coffee beans.

I don´t think this classifies as a hobby but it´s becoming sort of a daily pattern for me. I have a big, grassy, lush garden and lying on the grass underneath the bulky, towering trees is so soothing and calming. The leaves are immense and wide, providing the much needed shade from the scorching almost-summer sun. I usually lay out there in the early afternoon (1-3 PM) when the sun is out full blown in the open and a soft, dainty breeze pass through the leaves and grass. Sometimes, I read out there too or even do homework one other time. Only con is sometimes there´s too many bug friends and little critters crawling onto you, feels ticklish and somewhat bothersome.

my mini me soaking up some sun (in the shade)

May wasn´t the worst of time but it wasn´t the best of time either. In June, hopefully I´ll be caught up, rested, and human again. Until next time.

  1. Your kimchee fried rice looks delicious! That’s one of my comfort foods. Another way to top off the kimchee rice is to put a fried egg on top. But I’m not sure if that vegan. (sorry, don’t know much about the vegan diet).
I also love iced coffee with oat milk! Oat milk sells out quickly in the stores that carry them, but I love the texture.
