Food’s Current Status: Hated

Quarantine, when I first heard that we were all going into quarantine, it seemed like something beneficial on my part. But reality hit as the days passed on, the heavy work load coming in, the repeated daily routine that had no end. Wake up, class, lunch, class, homework, dinner, homework, relax a bit, sleep ,and repeat.

One of the things that was the most tiring I believe from this lock down period beside school would be the food. Sure I had the time to finally eat with my family and enjoy the food my mother prepared, but overtime the food became bland. Eating the food at the start was amazing, but once the true effects of quarantine seeped out, eating food was becoming more of a task than something worth waiting for. If anything, I started to eat less and more quickly, seeing it as something that was a waste of time and hindered with the time I could use to finish my homework to ensure I had time to relax at the end of the day and not have to stay up late.

It came to the point that food was so unappealing to me, I lost my passion/ hobby for baking and cooking. Usually I would bake something every Friday evening as a way to destress all the stress from the week, but not now. Now, whenever I look at the recipes, I lose all the energy I had, not having the effort to prepare the ingredients to make the dessert. Everyone that I once supplied with my baked goods noticed my burn out and questioned why I stopped and honestly I have no true clue. Maybe cause I’ve been stripped of energy from the week’s workload or maybe cause baking remained me how cooped up I’ve been in my home and my desire to leave and enjoy the outdoors.

Hopefully, as quarantine comes to a close, the routine will be broken and somethings will return to normal. Food is one component as I’m tired of home-cooked food for a while and seriously need to eat out to allow my distaste for home food to die-down. Who knows, maybe because of this quarantine, there will rise a new interest in the food department, only time will tell.

  1. I think you need to push yourself to make something that is completely new or something that you would think “there’s no way I can make that.” Since you make desserts I’m going to recommend a few:
    1. Pavlova: https://www.thespruceeats.com/australian-pavlova-recipe-256101
    2. This cake: https://www.saveur.com/semolina-coconut-cake-with-orange-and-rose-waters-recipe/
    3. Apple Rose Puffs: https://homemadeandyummy.com/apple-rose-puffs/
    4. No Bake Blueberry Cheesecake. If you want the recipe, let me know. You could make it with Mango or Stawberries and it would be super tasty.
