With quarantine came an ungodly amount of procrastination and no motivation to do school work, so the only logical thing I could do was go on a Studio Ghibli Marathon. So here I present my top 10 Studio Ghibli movies (of the ones I have watched).










Ponyo- A goldfish princess, banned from the world above the sea, meets a human boy named Sosuke who names her Ponyo. From there she wishes to be human so she can continue their friendship, but her father is determined to bring her back, no matter what.
Spirited Away- While moving, a young girl and her parents stumble into a park where her parents turn into pigs. She meets a mysterious boy who explains how the park is a spirit bathhouse where she must work to regain her freedom and her parents.
When Marnie Was There- A young girl is sent to her relatives in the countryside to work on her health, where she meets another young girl with beautiful blonde hair, but she seems eerily familiar somehow.
Whisper Of The Heart- The story follows a young aspiring writer who notices all the books she checks out from the library have also been previously checked out by a mysterious Seiji Amasawa. She goes on an adventure chasing a cat and makes new friends on the way.
Kiki’s Delivery Service- A young witch named Kiki, leaves home to embark on a witches in training journey with her talking cat Jiji. She soon settles into a town starting up a delivery service to gain money. But she soon loses her powers and must find a way to gain them back.
Castle In The Sky- A plane carrying a young girl and her kidnapper is hijacked where she escapes using a magic crystal necklace. She soon meets an orphan boy and embark on a journey to explore the floating city of Laputa while running away from pirates.
The Wind Rises- Sets place during WWII where a young Japanese aviation engineer embarks on his career and love life.
Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind- Set in an apocalyptic world in which a young girl named Nausicaa can communicate with the large insect like creatures that inhabit the ravaged toxic earth.
Grave Of The Fireflies- A story following a pair of orphan siblings, older brother and his little sister, in their fight to survive and stay together during WWII.
Howl’s Moving Castle- A young hatmaker, Sophie, befriends the wizard Howl, who lives in a travelling house. The witch of waste is upsetted by their friendship and curses Sophie to become old. The two must now fight the witch to restore Sophie to her youth.
