The topic that I chose for my Best or Worst thesis was”The Best Music Genre is Classical Music.” My problem is why people should care about this subject and why I care is because personally I think that classical music is very underrated and especially now when pop music and rap music is popular and mainstream, classical music just isn’t as popular as it was before.I found a quote from a famous pianist and he quotes “Music does have a wonderful way of expressing the inner life of somebody.” I really agree with this because I feel like music doesn’t really have the same feeling as other forms of entertainment, like movies or TV shows.

My first reason why classical music is the best genre is that popular music can be repetitive, especially now when you tune into the radio, you usually hear the same music with the same beats and slightly different lyrics. Most of the songs also have the same meaning, typically about love and broken relationships. But I find that with classical music, you can really feel the composer’s creativity and imagination about how they wanted to express their emotion at that time, and I think that’s what makes classical music so unique. And also with the use of orchestral and percussion instruments, you can really get a deeper and more intimate sound.

And my second reason is classical music can have a positive effect on mental health and improves cognitive thinking. One scientific study where they found that certain classical music can actually be very helpful in improving the brain development of children, called the Mozart Effect. And it was also found that when you are learning or when you’re studying, classical music can really help with improving memorization and thinking. 

My third reason is that classical music can be very relaxing. Sometimes for me personally when I’m studying, I really like to put on classical music because it helps me focus better than with other music genres because it doesn’t have words. I feel like I can really just relax and not have to pay attention to what the lyrics are saying because, there really aren’t any lyrics. But then again, you can still hear the depth in how the composer really wanted to portray their thinking and emotion at that time. 

My topic is classical music is the best music genre, and classical music is often overlooked and considered outdated music. With the rise of popular music like pop music or rap music, it’s not very common to hear classical music on mainstream radio anymore. I think that’s very unfortunate because classical music can be very relaxing and actually has a lot of benefits to it. 

Classical music dates back to like centuries ago, and this just shows that there’s a lot of history too. There’s baroque, romantic, and other categories of classical music. I feel like since you have so much history on classical music, you can actually learn about the history and you have literally centuries of music that you can listen to so you’ll never get sick of the same music. Classical music also requires lots of training and skill to master, so it’s not like anyone can really pick up an instrument or violin or trumpet and know how to play it well. It really takes a lot of time, talent, and skill to really learn how to play an instrument. I think that makes classical music so unique because it doesn’t take a lot of the time with pop music, there’s auto tune and with singing in general, it doesn’t take much effort or much skill to learn how to sing. 

I found this article that said “13 reasons to immediately stop liking classical music.” And some of these claims included “It’s so outdated”, “It’s not interesting.”,  “It’s so boring”, but actually I think the problem with the person who wrote the article was that they just didn’t find classical music that suited their taste. There are so many artists and composers who really put their time and work into composing their pieces. With pop music, there is often not that much effort put into music. But then again, I’m not saying pop music is just bad in general, but I feel like with classical music in general, there is a lot more effort put into the music. 

So I think classical music should be as popular as mainstream pop music, because it really is underrated and really should be appreciated more for its beauty. And that was my presentation.
