From Me, to You

Dear future me,

This year has been a mess. One filled with emptiness, dissociation, conflict, stress, struggle, and loss. Through all of it, you learned… you learned that the main takeaways were the willingness to put in the work and motivate yourself in order to work around your struggles. You initially thought joining track & field was going to be a temporary thing; something that you weren’t going to fully commit to and thought as a joke. Little did you know track was going to be a forever thing. Who knew you could gain so much from a sport, not just technique, skill, speed, strength, but instead, as cheesy as it sounds, a family. At your lowest point, when no one else could see weakness and pain, they were there for you.

Going to track everyday was something that you used to try to avoid, but as the year went on, you finally understood that it was something that was now a part of you; something that defined you. You practically needed to go back to the track everyday and reconnect with your friends. A forever bond was made for the better and I hope you realize that when you’re older you know you have a second family to go to when the other lets you down. From something that was so dreaded and meant so little to you soon became the thing that you looked forward to. Know that things can change. Hard work, motivation, and commitment go a long way.

Yours respectfully,

Quarantine me
