Dear Future Self

Dear Future Self,

Hello future me! I’m sure you can remember how rough of a year 2020 was, but I’m sure you can remember it wasn’t all gray skies, but also sunshine and rainbows. Many memories, good and bad, were made during the year. This past year was a test to your friendships, mental health, and patience. Although the whole online school/quarantine/pandemic was truly an unfortunate situation, I am partially grateful it happened because it gave me an opportunity to reflect on myself. The start of quarantine was definitely difficult, mentally. I was going through a terrible situation, crying every night, and I felt alone due to the stay-at-home order. The only comfort I had was from my dogs, I was very fortunate to have them by my side 24/7. They were there for me when nobody else was! However, I’m glad eventually I improved my mental state but also my physical health! Throughout the whole year, I was able to realize who my true friends were and who I wanted to be, without the fear of being judged. I’m writing this letter to remind myself in the future to carefully choose friends, because you never know who is truly genuine. It’s easy for people to put on a “nice” act, but I hope you don’t fall for that again! Hopefully it gets easier for you to tell who’s fake and who’s not early on before you get hurt again. It’s important to surround yourself with people who you’re comfortable around and you can really trust. I lost a lot of friends, which definitely hurt, but I also became friends with new people or got closer to people who I previously knew. If all goes wrong, just know that your dogs will always be there for you. I just wanted to make sure you remember that everything happens for a reason! I’m certain that in the future I will be a stronger and happier person than I was going into 2020 (because leaving 2020 and entering 2021 I was already becoming happier, and it can only go up from here… hopefully). Your present self is wishing you the best in the future so that you can reach your very, very ambitious goals :).

Sincerely,

Your Present Self ヽ(^◇^*)/
