The Will of the People

We as a society have reached a point where right and wrong are the same as left and right, so long as it is the will of the people. A majority can rewrite the world while the minorities get little to no say. This is an important aspect in the graphic novel They Called Us Enemy. From the start, we see the Asian-American minority discriminated to where mainstream media and politicians took notice. People protested on the streets for the removal of those who they thought were behind the bombing of Pearl Harbor, when in reality many of these people do not even speak their native language. Soon after, the president took notice, and signed an order for all Japanese people to be sent to designated locations. In reality these were internment camps. After doing some research, Britannia states that many other Asians that were mistaken for the Japanese were also taken as well. It was wrong. Yet people still did it. It doesn’t matter if you are right or wrong, so long as you have the backing of the people. What if I told you there was a solution so simple, that you have been doing it since the day you were born. Learning. I’m not just talking about school, but rather learning through experience. If everyone in this nation were surrounded by people who made good decisions, had a moral conscious, then we would have peace. A decision so simple as turning in that $20 you found inside of a store, sets you apart between right and wrong.
