My name is Malia Josephson and I believe that rain is the best weather for us here in Southern California. I don’t know about you, but one thing that determines my mood on a day to day basis, is the weather. That being said, I really dislike hot, muggy, humid weather. It just doesn’t make me feel good and puts me into a bad mood. On the flip side, a nice, rainy, chilly day, is the superior weather for Southern California. Here in SoCal we don’t get very many rainy days, and I think everyone should appreciate those that we do get, hence why this is an important topic.

So, as mentioned, here in SoCal we have typically warmer temperatures, that being said, rain is the best weather here. I love rain for multiple reasons but one being the sound of rain. With that, the sound of rain and cooler temperatures makes for a potentially relaxing day, the second reason why I love rain. The final reason on why rain is the best weather here in socal is because of rainbows. I love rainbows, and I’ve never met someone who doesn’t.

The sound of rain is something that can be so calming yet at the same time something that excites me. I absolutely love when it rains, so the sound of rain on my window makes me want to go outside and stand around in the chilly rain as it drenches my hair. Whether I’m sitting in bed in my room, with my dog on the couch, or eating at the kitchen table, you can always hear the rain tapping on the windows and it is a sound that i love. If it’s only misting/sprinkling, I’ll simply open up my window a bit just enough so I can hear the slow and quiet hissing of the fine mist falling from the sky. Or on the flipside, sometimes I’ll play some lo-fi music with the sound of harsher, thunderstorm-like rain that I can hear quite clearly with my window closed. My favorite thing to do with the sound of rain is fall asleep. Whether it be a nap during the day, or falling asleep at night, I am always able to fall asleep rather quickly. It helps to calm me down by taking my mind off of whatever I may be thinking about as I’m trying to fall asleep by making me think about what the rain may look like falling from the sky even if I cannot directly see it. 

In addition to the sound of rain being calming, I think that the cooler temperatures that come with rain, can also make for a very relaxing day. As I had mentioned earlier the sound of rain directly contributes to me being able to have a relaxing day when it’s raining. I love being able to have a relaxing day when it’s cold outside because it puts me in a good mood and gives me the perfect opportunity to stay inside and have a day to myself. Now I don’t know about you but being wrapped up in a warm blanket, a glass of tea or hot chocolate warming my hands, watching my favorite Netflix show, with the sound of the rain on my window sounds like a perfect day. 

Rainbows are a wondrous thing if you ask me. I think rainbows are so pretty as well as something that can make people smile. Whenever kids see a rainbow their faces light up with excitement, and when adults see rainbows they may have a big grin on their face or they may show a slight smile of relief. Now I’m not sure what from, but rainbows seem to be something everyone enjoys. Rainbows are something that personally makes me smile. When I look at rainbows, I see the different colors and how in nature you can see so many different colors without realizing it even if they’re right in front of your eyes. Rainbows make me smile and I’m sure they make me smile too as I’ve never met someone who doesn’t like a rainbow. I don’t know about you but I always love being able to see the rainbow after a rainy day or during a rainy day in the breaks between rainfall. 

Now you might be thinking that rain is an inconvenience therefore it is not the best weather in Southern California. However, my response to that is we live in Southern California and most of our days are warm with no rain and there is no inconvenience. With that in mind, it’s nice to have a couple days here and there that are rainy days, in which we can stay at home or do other activities inside that don’t require a sunny day. I can see how someone may feel that a sunny day is the best way to spend your day however, I feel that we need and deserve rainy days throughout the year as it is a good way to have a break from the warm sun. I specifically say that rain is the best weather here in Southern California because I understand that there are other places such as the East Coast, that have so many more rainy days than we have here. I have never lived anywhere except here, therefore I do not know what it is like to have rain everyday for months, I don’t know what it is like to have an indoor school because of rain or snow, and I don’t know what it is like to have rain all the time. I only know what it is like to have rain here, and it is something that I really enjoy.

All in all, I believe that rain is superior to a hot sunny day because here in Southern California we don’t get very many and I think that we should all appreciate any rainy days that we do get. Rainy days are good relaxing days, the sound of rain can help calm you down, and with rain comes rainbows and I think rainbows can make anyone smile. I think that we should all love the rainy days that we do get even if it’s not very many. I hope that the next time we get rain you are able to think back to what I have talked about and grab your favorite blanket, grab your favorite drink, sit down with a pet if you have one and watch your favorite TV show or movie. or take a nap because naps are good and everyone needs their sleep.
