Friday nights at 11:00 PM. It’s one of the things I love most right now in this time of the school year and it’s been kind of new to me. The calls usually start at 11:00 PM sometimes later or earlier, I don’t mind the time time of the call, I just want to call, you know?
During this time I usually stay up to talk to my friends and enjoy conversations later at night. I always wondered why the conversations are so much more entertaining and way more interesting when everyone is asleep and I’ve also wondered why my friends become so much more funny.
The three things I realized about why I love facetiming my friends is that one, everyone in my house is asleep by 11, so I can talk to my friends about private things that are kept just between us. When I facetime later, for some reason everything is just more funny, no matter how dumb the joke is and lastly number three, eventually everyone gets tired and we end up having at least one deep conversation that makes us feel more comfortable.
The first reason that late night calls are so fun is because everyone is asleep in the house. With everyone asleep in the house it’s so peaceful. Even on the weekdays, not just Friday’s and Saturday’s, on Monday’s and Tuesday’s when I don’t have electronics with me and all I can hear is the sound of crickets chirping, I enjoy thinking and just staring at the ceiling. With three siblings and another one on the way, the piece and quiet is nice. Also, without my nosy family wanting to hear everything, my friends are able to tell me about their personal lives without someone listening in.
My second reason is that everything is funny no matter what, and laughing is nice, enjoyable. I did some research to why everything is so much more funny later at night. I found out that when someone suffers from sleep deprivation the brain is pretty much shut down so everything seems funnier to them. I’ve noticed this for myself because around 2:00 or 3:00 AM, I end up laughing at everything, no matter how stupid the joke is, and I generally think that, that much laughing makes me happier.
My last reason is the comfort of deep conversations. I also did some research on the subject of why people have deep conversations later at night. This is due to the fact that the parasympathetic nervous system is more active during the night. People tend to have more deep conversations because of this, with their close friends, family and significant others. With the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system, people are more sympathetic, relaxed and their muscles are calm and less stressed. They are less likely to become mad or even sad, they’re just their for the other person, to make them feel better. This makes a lot of sense because when I’m having a deep conversation, with a friend, or a couple of them, I’m more calm and able to pay attention without falling asleep.
But there is a problem, my mom doesn’t like the fact that I stay up late. So, I made a deal with her, I give her all my electronics at 10:30 PM on weekdays, but on weekends, I can keep my stuff with me.
In conclusion, Friday nights at 11 PM is the best time to talk to your friends.
