There are many forms of artistic expression out there, whether it’s dancing, music, or sculpting. But one form in particular, the art of drawing, simply stands out. It is a great medium of expression and a very enjoyable one at that.

So why is drawing a great medium of expression?
First off, it is excellent for creative expression. You can illustrate thoughts and ideas with different elements of drawing that can convey different ideas, such as the varied use of illumination, tone, and other aspects of art to communicate various emotions.

Drawing also allows you to learn useful concepts that can be used outside the realm of drawing. For instance, you will need to learn anatomy to draw certain things proportionately, and learning anatomy is extremely important for the scientific field of work, especially medical or biological work. It can help you memorize specific body parts better because you will need to remember the intricate details of the human structure. You can also learn color theory from drawing. Simply put, you can organize colors and make things look coordinated. This can be especially useful in architecture or furnishing as colors are a critical part of design.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, drawing can allow you to see new perspectives. You’ll see what others think about certain topics, such as those of social movements, and particular experiences and ideas.

Why learn new perspectives from art then?
Learning new perspectives from art will allow you to see what others think about the world around them, whether it is how they view the world around them or how they feel about certain things.
So why learn from others perspectives?
Learning from others’ perspectives allows you to learn new things and apply those perspectives to your own world. See things differently, live life differently, and so much more from a simple thought a person shared through art.
So why should we apply these perspectives to our own world?
Applying these perspectives to our own world will let us build empathy and make connections. Learning others’ perspectives lets you empathize with them and perhaps connect with them in a way you’d never thought possible. You can also share these ideas outside of art to make even more connections and perhaps even gain new perspectives. Like said before, seeing new perspectives creates empathy and connection.

With all that has been said and done, it seems a little too easy to simply get right to drawing. There exists a popular argument that people bring upon the topic of drawing, especially when they compare themselves to someone a little more experienced in the activity. It would be talent, or the lack thereof that hinders them from creating art. I speak of all the advantages to drawing, but what if you do not have the talent to do so? How can one express themselves the way they want if their way of expressing it is simply no good?
The answer is practice. Like many, many other hobbies and activities in life, the best way to get better at it is to practice it, over and over until the result is satisfactory.
When I began drawing, the art never became the masterpieces I wanted. Like many artists, I hated my art at its current level. But simply thinking that it was horrible wasn’t going to get me anywhere towards improvement. So I began looking for inspiration, tutorials, anything that would guide me towards improvement and the long-awaited satisfaction with what I’ve done. So I practiced and kept drawing for years and years, and finally, I am at a stage where I can say my art is good enough. Of course, I’m still learning and improving, but I no longer have a seething dissatisfaction for it. I look at the bright side and simply think: I just need to practice more.

This thought process is not only ideal for improving your art, but rather anything you wish to get better at. This mindset allows you to step further when you think you cannot.
In conclusion, drawing is a great way to express oneself, learn new things, and see others’ perspectives. You can learn many things from it and have fun as well!
