Have you ever got the feeling when you grow up, you lose a part of your childlike wonder? Unfortunately, this all happens for all people transitioning into adults. However, this is not necessarily a bad thing. I once read a novel titled, Siddhartha, which has the main character having a revelation that changes him and differentiates him between his child self and his adult self. Although he could not be a child anymore, he was ok with it and moved on to experience new things. In chapter 4, the novel states, “He realized that he was no youth any more, but had turned into a man. “He realized that one thing had left him, as a snake is left by its old skin, that one thing no longer existed in him, which had accompanied him throughout his youth and used to be a part of him: the wish to have teachers and to listen to teachings.” This means that he has finally transitioned into adulthood and now views his past desires as childish with his statement being that he does not want teachers and to listen to teachings. This can be applied into real life. As we grow older, we do not do such childlike actions like eating crayons or wanting to be a superhero because that seems cool. This can also relate to the memories we made when we were little. When you were younger, you had so much curiosity about the world and was as pure as you can be for a child. This is important because as you grow up, you can not have those same experiences again. Even though that seems sad, its okay because even though time passes by, the memory is still in your head. There was a youtube video that expresses those same feelings to me before and it was about Minecraft youtubers. Back in the day, those youtubers made my life brighter and more enjoyable. On a surface level, they seem to be just family friendly youtubers but that is not the case. These people affected almost everyone I knew and touched our hearts. As years goes by, these people start to dwindle and are now a different person. Watching that video made me remember my time watching them when I was little and I started to tear up bit. A quote that represents this is “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Siddharthas character development in chapter 4 made me realize that everything good must come to the end, but that doesn’t mean that you have to forget about it.
