Eyes on Reality

One major idea in the novel Siddhartha, by Herman Hesse is the idea of fakeness in society. Society is a cruel place that will put constant pressure on you, if you don’t match the likeness of others. Many people will fall under this pressure, and pretend to be someone they really aren’t . As a result, one can fall farther away from their true selves because of society. Many people pretend, and put on masks to self justify in a fake world. These masks make the world a confusing place, where you can’t trust people entirely based on the outside.

The farther you are away from yourself, the easier it is for others to take advantage of you. They can expose your true self in an embarrassing fashion and encourage you to harm yourself in order to fit in. The increase of social media in our generation, has caused people to create a fake image for the world to see. People become obsessed with faking pictures, and being perfect to their peers. Social media can also spread the idea of greed, and materialism. Materialism can lead us off our path towards our real goal, and can cause us to lose ourselves to temporary items. This spread of fakeness is a plague to society, especially in the mind of the youth. I have always been known as the weird, nerdy, and skinny kid in school. At one point I considered changing my entire personality, and friend group just to only feel like I belong somewhere. Fortunately, I never did that as I would lose myself, and would lose connections with the people I trust most. I looked deep down in myself, and decided to avoid fake perfection. I stuck to my own road, and embraced myself as I am truly. Instead of following all trends and relying on media for satisfaction, I took up music as a passion.

In reality, we should keep our mind on the truth, not implications made by the media. Society wants you to act, see, and think of things in its own ways. Society wants you to be like sheep feeding of its incorrect perceptions, just to be butchered in the end. In the end, what matters is accepting failure, and the idea of improvement from yourself. Establishing a mold that can improve, is the proper way to live. It may be hard and frustrating, but all things will eventually work out if you keep your eyes on reality.
