What are Videogames?

Do videogames have any benefits on a person’s mind? Videogames is something that can stir up a lot on controversy among families. Lots of parents, including mine, think that videogames are simply wastes of time. Something that you brainlessly do to procrastinate on your responsibilities. But what do videogames actually serve as.

Just like our parents, kids, teens, and just people in general will always find something fun to do. It’s just in this generation, the definition of fun isn’t just playing outside or sports, it’s also virtual things such as videogames or literally anything on the internet. It’s hard for parents to comprehend this idea of having fun online because in their youth, they were doing more active things for fun like biking or sports. Of course, there are always downsides to having too much fun. You can easily get carried away with videogames and spend countless hours on it, like I have many times, while you really could have been doing something productive.

To me, I use videogames as both a way of bonding, and to escape reality. Playing games has always been an interest of mine. I will play videogames to occupy myself with things other than school. It is really helpful to deal with stress when I can reward myself by playing with my friends after finishing all my work. Most importantly, I use it as a way of bonding. Everyday since I was in 5th grade, I will play videogames with my friends. This is where I get to know the most about them and we have had so much fun. I also play with my family as well. Sometimes my sister will just ask to play one of my games. Although I struggle to teach how to play, it’s still great.

For my poster, I made a Gamer’s Support Group. This is a group that would entice people who play a little too much videogames during their free, and no so free time. However, the irony of this is that rather than helping us play videogames less, it encourages us to play more.
