Maybe we can’t guarantee that we will find something to make us smile, but we can definitely help guarantee that smiling will become a cemented part in someone else’s life. Karma says that what you put out into the world will always come back to you, so maybe, if you wait long enough, the good you cement into others lives will cement itself in yours.

There are a lot of ways to do this, but the one the way I’m focusing on is to post something ridiculous. You can do this on social media or in a physical place. While clicking a few buttons on a phone is definitely quicker than printing something, walking outside, and taping on a wall, there are definitely some benefits social media posting does not have:

• A physical poster seems more personal; It shows that someone chose the harder option specifically to make you smile.
• It invites new opportunities: you might run into someone while posting it, and make a connection with a neighbor you don’t usually see or talk to. You might notice that someone’s roses are doing particularly well this week. The possibilities are endless.
• Getting out of the house; It can be very hard to commit to anything when the easier option is to stay inside. This is a very small commitment that gives you the chance to go outside and maybe realize that going on walks can be very fun.

The flyer I made is a play on words. While it looks like an ad requesting a tutor, it is really referring to the Tudors (a line of English monarchs reigning from 1485 and 1603, famously including Henry VIII, “Bloody” Mary, and Elizabeth I). Henry VIII some of the most notable events in his reign were the divorces, beheadings, and deaths of his six wives. 

This is just one of the many ridiculous things you can put on a flyer. For help, here is a video where the man who inspired this flyer talks about his inspiration. Even some of the smallest things can get someone smiling, and that smile might carry them throughout the day. There is always some good you can put into the world, and, at least in my experience, it will come back to you in some way.
