In a majority of cultures, education prioritized over everything else, and in some cases, the students’ wellbeing. The American people have created a system, where academics of your teen years determines your entire future. You don’t get good grades, you don’t have a bright future. It’s plain and sweet for big universities to choose potential candidates, but what about us? The physical and mental stress of being a high schooler is often underrated and we are simply brushed off as just “immature kids.” In a study conducted by the American Psychological Association (APA), it was discovered that children suffer more anxiety than psychiatric patients in the 1950s. To elaborate, Pew Research Center concluded that depression amongst teenagers has risen at an alarming rate, to where almost 15% of teenagers have experienced a major depressive episode in the last 12 months. Peer pressure, bullying, and quarantine are a few things that trigger depression, but stress in school is the most common dilemma. We are placed an unbearable amount of stress to do well in school, because frankly this is how the world works, a few years of our teenage years defines our entire life. Personally, I’ve seen many of my own peers struggle with this stress and turn to desperate measures to help remedy it, one of which being Adderall. Adderall is a psychostimulant that was developed to help users cope with Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Recently, many teenagers have turned to Adderall to boost their academic ability. It is saddening to see many teenagers go to those lengths just to prove that they are worthy of a bright future.
