I made a fake flier, I wanted to make an art piece that represented the neighborhood I’m living in. The neighborhood is very quiet, and not much goes on. Everybody is friendly and keeps to themselves. That’s where things take a twist. I wanted my piece to represent and show how each of us have our own lives and secrets. That is why I made my piece blend in. I wanted to make a bridge between the knowing and the unknown because of how quiet everyone is. At first glance, my installation looks like an ordinary birthday party invite to all my neighbors, but that isn’t the case. If you look closely, you can read the information given, and you will see that they make absolutely no sense at all. The times are impossible, the place is “otherworldly”, the attire is definitely going to summon the fashion police, and the requests are just plain crazy! I had a lot of fun making this because I got to have fun with my imagination and stop worrying about school for once. Thinking of the theme for this one was hard to choose because there were so many wonderful options. I could’ve gone with a missing dog, a fake store shutting down, or many other things. I think this is actually great for my community because everyone deserves a little laugh everyday, and it’s a little laughter for someone who happens to be on a walk. There may be someone who is confused about my work, but I think that makes it all the better for them. It makes them think about it and maybe it’ll get stuck in they’re head. Mixing things up is more important now than ever because we are all cooped up in our houses during these trying times, and I think that a little bit of confusion can’t hurt anybody.
