Social Media

The lack of social media I use is considered as weird and odd to my friends. Growing up, my parents have always told me to be careful online. That mindset has stuck with me up to this very day I’m typing this. As matter of fact, I have kinda been scared to post anything on social media, especially anything concerning my real life matters or what I look like. I guess I just prefer to be an enigma to the online world. Nothing more than just a bunch of “ones” and “zeros” on a screen.

I’m sure many people reading this right now are like that as well. Instead of checking your phone all day or staring at a screen, you actually have a balanced social, and real life. Not trying to claim that people that are addicted to social media can’t have a healthy social life as well. However, you have to ask yourself if spending hours at a time alone at home can be justified if you’re spending all that time on a selection of apps or games.

Here’s an example of what I mean. Take some of my friends for instance. They always seem to be online at every minute of the day. It’s a bit unnerving to see how quickly they respond as well. Half my friends couldn’t care less about their online privacy as well. I mean, it’s like they don’t even know that showing your face on Instagram or Snapchat might not be the best idea as a minor under the age of 18. That’s just opening yourself up to trouble.

So, what do I do instead? It’s nothing that would surprise you, I can assure you of that much. On a normal day, I wake up, have my standard breakfast of cereal, and head off to school for the majority of the day. On off days I tend to go on walks around the neighborhood, just taking a look at the scenery. You’d be surprised as to how much you notice change. I can’t say that I completely avoid social media however as that would be unrealistic for someone going to online school. However, after “school” I tend to just practice an instrument, or enjoy my hobbies.

However, I digress. The way I live my life doesn’t have to be the way you live yours. In fact, I think it’d be great if you didn’t try to imitate someone. I suppose the main point I’m trying to convey is that you can live your life without social media.
