Till it’s Gone

They all say “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.” and quarantine helped me realize I had so many gifts that I took for granted. Hanging out with my friends, dining in at restaurants, going to school, giving people hugs, handshakes, high-fives, and fist bumps are some of the privileges that I’ve lost and took for granted. It amazes me how all these activities used to be normal and practiced without thought, but due to social distancing, I now view them differently. For instance, a few days ago I read an older article and the article included a picture of a crowded subway station. I remember feeling disoriented and weirded out at the sight of a bunch of people close together. I also felt a little concerned, even though I was fully aware that the picture was taken years before the pandemic. But what boggles me the most is that myself from 2019 would look at the same picture and not take any significant emotion or meaning from it. Overall, my quarantine experience has changed my way of viewing normal things and made me realize that life is full of uncertainties and I should take time to acknowledge everything before it’s gone.
