Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that causes illnesses, ranging from a common cold to more life-threatening or severe diseases. COVID-19 is an infectious, respiratory disease, deriving from the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). Older adults and elders with underlying medical conditions are more likely and prone to being inflicted with the coronavirus and are at higher risk of developing larger complications. Symptoms vary for each person based on a specific age group, but, it includes fevers, chills, shortness of breath, sore throat, nausea, headaches, congestion, loss of taste or smell, and etc.

Generally, it could take between one to two weeks for a healthy, younger human-being to withstand the symptoms of the coronavirus and even up to a month for those who obtain a weaker respiratory system. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), people at the age of 65-80 are generally at a higher risk compared to small children and young adults. In the United States, 8 out of the 10 people who are over the age of 65 and have been affected by the virus are reported dead shortly after two weeks or so.

“Don’t let it dominate you! Don’t be afraid! You’re gonna beat it!” The president of the United States declared a short, “encouraging” speech about his experience with a case of coronavirus on Twitter the evening of October 5th. With the current 44.3k replies to his tweet, a large majority wishes him well and a quick recovery while others found his statement offensive. Due to his personal needs, President Trump demanded that he returns to the White House three days following his coronavirus diagnosis on Friday, October 2nd. The president continues to express how he “feels better than I [he] did 20 years ago” under the Trump administration and the help from Walter Reed Medical Center. There was plenty of backlash which emphasized how many are unable to afford healthcare and the privileges of medicine, doctors, and treatments to survive their fight against the virus. Some went as far as saying his message ridiculed and downplayed the 210k American citizens that have passed since the first case of COVID-19 was detected in the U.S.

In the last week, there was an uproar and outburst among the people, speculating how quickly a 74-year old defeated the virus that swept the country’s economic and social status for the last seven months. Of course, as the President of the United States and an influence over a large body of people, President Trump upheld a strong facade, displaying to the American people that they should not be afraid of the virus. The night of his arrival at the White House, President Trump immediately removes his mask before entering the building to pose and salute for pictures. In many mainstream media platforms, there were videos of him struggling to breathe as well as him gasping for air which created controversy online.

President Donald Trump’s physician, Sean Conley, released updates to the media on October 6th, reviewing his condition for the last couple of days. His medical team reveals that he “had a restful first night at home, and today [October 6] he reports no symptoms.” The timeframe between his diagnosis to the present varies quite heavily since he expresses how he “learned a lot about COVID” firsthand. However, in order for President Trump to protect the economy, he argues that many assumptions and sources are “Fake News Media.” Some individuals believed that President Trump and his team is sending out a potentially dangerous message by conveying those to take the coronavirus lightly. With the daily rise of fatalities, people find it incredibly misleading when the president understates the importance of social distancing and using masks as protection. His influence over the American population remains fairly scattered where a few believe that we, as citizens, should not be fearful. On the opposing end, others bash his methods, indicating how it is counterproductive.

Though President Donald Trump, the First Lady, and the rest of his administrative team seems fairly cautious under these unfortunate circumstances, his future plans are slightly questionable. According to the Washington Post, President Trump is remaining determined to attend the second presidential debate in Miami against Joe Biden next week. His team ensures that they are attempting to follow every protocol to guarantee everyone’s safety, yet, the president was not swayed even after taking in consideration that he could still be contagious and a danger to others during the debate. Besides that, President Trump began conducting daily activities once again and demonstrates a reckless response to the coronavirus pandemic, regardless of the data that says otherwise. Many remain quite skeptical of his campaigning program moving forward, particularly due to his condition and the large venues for rallies of unmasked participants.

  1. Balanced and fair. Hard to write without clear evidence of bias and just show the facts and provide speculation and points from both sides, something people struggle to do with in any argument. A very mature viewpoint and entry it’s great!
