At the beginning, I didn’t know what to expect from the distance learning, but I am glad that it turned out as well as it did. I had virtually no trouble during these few months, except for the first few weeks, as the transition was tough. Teachers and students alike didn’t know what to do, but we were able to figure it out together. The new grading system was a great addition to this issue because it created less stress for those packed with work, so they could focus on the subjects that needed work. What worked the best for me was putting up assignments that would be due at the end of the week, so students have the flexibility of doing the homework whenever. I had one subject that had homework due the day after and although it made me finish the work, it was quite troublesome and a hassle to do every day.
For school in the Fall, I would like to stick with the distance learning and only go to school when necessary. “The option I most agreed with was option #1. With the class sizes I have experienced at FV, I do not see how we can social distance. 80% of infections are mild or asymptomatic, meaning people could have the virus and not know because they aren’t showing any symptoms. The only proper way is testing but it would be impossible to test everybody and get the results back in the amount of time needed. Classes would need to be cleaned daily to prevent more people becoming infected. I do not foresee everyone at school wearing masks. People become antsy and may take them off in areas in which teachers are not nearby to say anything. Also the boys bathroom doesn’t have soap dispensers, and washing hands is the most effective way to prevent this virus. Although being online is not ideal, I feel it is the safest way for us to learn.”-Allison Nguyen. I highly agree with the statement as it talks about the cons of having the other options and how this is the best possible scenario to keep everyone safe. I hope that the school can figure out the best plan to carry out for school next year and I hope they remember to keep the students in mind so everyone is comfortable.
Let’s make next year bloom and be as beautiful as possible.
