The Effects of Quarantine on Society

We all know that quarantine kinda blows. No matter who you are, for the most part this whole coronavirus thing has really put a damper on life and relegated you to your house, in which you ran out of things to do within the first month. For gamers, this pandemic hasn’t been so bad, but for the vast majority, this whole thing has kinda sucked. My experience hasn’t been too bad. It has actually been quite nice, much to the contrary of others. The whole quarantine situation has allowed me to spend way more time with my brother, who had to move back from Texas after just moving there a few months ago. In my case, the coronavirus situation has been pretty good as it allowed my brother and I’s relationship to grow.

However, for many people, the lockdown has only made their life worse as things they are used to doing are all of a sudden stripped from their schedule. As a result of being inside all day and not being allowed to see friends, the mental health of many has declined as a result. People feel alone in times like this and no matter how many commercials you see of “We’re in this together”, some people have never felt more alone, which is the problem to limiting or eliminating human contact in order to prevent a virus that is as weak as the flu. The reason people aren’t going out is not because they are making the conscious not to, but because they are being nearly forced not to. Even if they did go out, there is nothing to go out and do.

Despite how bad things are now, there is only a short amount of time left until things can go back to normal… Or is there? Many people think that things will come back and life will continue on as if this pandemic had never happened, but there is a great possiblity that it won’t. Think of 9/11 as an example. After that horrific incident, airports have never been the same and breaches in privacy have only continued to get more invading. After lockdown ends, there is no guarantee that things will resume as normal. When school comes around again, we might have to where masks all day or social distance in class, or be stuck doing online learning again. The scary part of this lockdown will be the aftermath. If another unknown virus pops up, will the government shut everything down again? What is stopping the government from imposing there will on us and violating our freedoms? There is a fine line to these kind of things, one that could easily lead to a slippery slope that is the future of our freedoms.
