It is June 4th, 2020. 2020, the year I thought everything was going to be perfect. The year to better ourselves, to have fun, and a year to try new things. That’s what I thought was going to happen, at least. On March 13th, 2020, this year took a turn and has unfortunately only been going downhill from here.
To start this year off, Covid-19 came into our lives. Such an unexpected way to start off the year, 2020. Covid-19 has taken away the rest of my junior year, seniors’ graduations, and the opportunity to hug those we keep closest to my heart. We have been forced to stay in our homes to prevent the spread of the corona virus. Yes, time in my house has given me the opportunity to learn new hobbies, cook, and spend more time with those that I live with. Although, it isn’t the same. I miss going to school, I miss seeing my friends, and I miss having a routine. I miss life before corona virus took it all away. With the many days I have spent in my home, I have been hopeful. Hopeful that the virus is getting better and we will soon be able to live our lives again. I’m still…hoping, it is June 4th, 2020.
Just when we thought the virus can potentially be better, it feels as though America is still stuck in the year 1950. It is 2020, but it feels like 1950. George Floyd, the name that has changed the world. George Floyd was an African American man who had been unreasonably killed by cops. This man was judged by the color of his skin rather than the quality of his heart; the correct way to judge a human being. With this man’s life being taken, this has opened the minds and hearts of many Americans in which it has sparked the Black Lives Matter Movement. Anger, frustration, sadness, and so many more emotions have been brought out of many during this time. Not only are Americans fighting for George Floyd, but for the lives of all black lives. For many years, black lives are continued to be overlooked and treated unfairly because of their skin, but it is time to put an end to racism. It is time to have their voices heard and find peace for the families that have lost their love ones from racism. It is not right to be judging someone based off of their skin color because in the end, we are all one. We are Americans and we all deserve to be treated equally.
Now as 2020 continues for the next couple months, I can only hope that things will get better and not worse. I cannot tell what the future holds, but I will continue to to my best to find the good in the negative. If it is possible, of course.
