What My Family Taught About Food

One of the few things in my lifestyle that has not changed during quarantine is my diet. My family and I rarely eat out because we are able to recreate most of our cravings at home. We enjoy cooking/baking because it’s a cheaper, healthier, and overall better alternative. Many outside foods are processed with artificial additives that enhance taste. My parents enjoy recreating dishes that they enjoyed outside and bring it inside. They also like adding their own twist to the dish.

I’m proud to have food enthusiasts as my parents. There are many benefits of having food enthusiasts. They taught me so much about food and helped me expand my taste. They taught me that anything can be made at home; as long as you put in the effort. They taught me that mistakes are okay – practice makes perfect – and delicious foods are made from trial and error.

My parents mostly cook, so I decided to pick up baking. I made a couple cakes for Thanksgiving and my father’s birthday. I also made macrons because I would always get some at a bakery. Cookies were a given! I had fun making them and enjoying them at a lower price. It’s also interesting to know what and how much ingredients go into a food.

I believe the best feeling of baking or cooking is watching people taste and enjoy your creation. It makes me happy to see a group of people joyfully gathered and eating together, complementing each other on each other’s dishes. My family taught me how to feel this type joy, and it’s a feeling of great achievement. The art of food is special and I hope to create my own special recipes and recreations in the future!
